Singer AR Rahman’s Mother Kareema Begum Passes Away
Kareema Begum, the mother of music teacher AR Rahman, passed away in Chennai on Monday. Rahman confirmed the news by sharing a photo of his mother on Twitter.
Including director Mohan Raja, producer Dr. Dhananjayan and singer Harshdeep Kaur took to social media to offer their condolences to Rahman.

Mohan Raja posted on Twitter: “Our deepest condolences, sir. Her soul Rest in Peace. “Meanwhile, Harshdeep Kaur tweeted: “Dear Sir. Deeply saddened by your loss. God gives you strength. Recalling the beautiful and gentle soul of Amma. She will remain in our hearts forever.”
Lyricist Vivek shared on Twitter: ” Heartbroken. I used to hear inspiring stories of how she was like an iron pillar and was an important factor in creating an ingenious musician. May God give you the strength to overcome this incredible loss @arrahman sir @arrameen and his family. ”
AR Rahman was raised by his mother after the death of his father and musical composer RO Sekhar at the age of only nine. In numerous interviews, Madras Mozart had expressed that it was his mother who recognized his musical talents.
